Laser Hair Removal
What is Laser Hair Removal?
The history of laser hair removal began when lasers themselves were invented back in the mid-20th century, when Theodore H. Maiman invented the first laser in 1960, (although Einstein had accurately predicted laser light in the late 19th century, the technology to produce the laser was unavailable at that time). In spite of this, many major companies turned laser down as they saw no future benefit in it. However later on, dermatology became one of the fields which could benefit from this scientific breakthrough. However, it wasn't until the 1990's that the technology of laser began to be used effectively for hair removal, and since then, has gone from strength to strength.

How Laser Hair Removal Works
As the name suggests, a laser beam is used to significantly reduce and assist with the significant reduction or removal of unwanted hair.
Heat is produced from the laser beam which is absorbed into the pigment (melanin) in the hair.
This in turn damages the individual hair follicles of the specific area being treated, causing hair regrowth to be significantly reduced, and eventually for the follicle to die.
Please note that the method of laser hair removal is NOT suitable directly over a tattoo. However, we can treat all the areas around the tattoo, and then follow with electrolysis directly on the tattoo. Please see our dedicated page on this subject

Consultation
Prior to any treatment (whether laser hair removal or electrolysis) a full consultation will take place. We avoid "quickie" free consultations, because any form of hair removal is a serious treatment, which we take very seriously. Therefore, a full and lengthy consultation will be carried out with each client.
During the consultation process, you will be asked a series of questions about your heritage, medical history and any current medication that has been prescribed. This will ensure that the correct treatment is applied to the patient.
The consultation will include a patch test to assess your skins suitability against the Fitzpatrick Skin Scale for laser hair removal. This widely known scale determines skin types together with their risk of tanning when exposed to both sun or UV light. Once this evaluation has been determined, the correct treatment can be proceed.
We can treat ALL skin types/colours due to the advanced laser we use, which is the LumiLASE Pro 3. This state of the art laser covers all shades of skin within the Fitzpatrick Scale.

Regarding hair colour/shades, no matter what you read, laser cannot either reduce or remove blonde or grey hair. However, we do offer a technique that involves a special carbon dye for these particular hair colours. We stress that this is not guaranteed to work, as everyone is different. Having said that, this dye is shown to work in a good percentage of cases (but not all).We are happy to discuss this potential option at your initial consultation, and can adjust prices to reflect the non-guaranteed element of the carbon dye. The carbon is effective by dyeing the grey or blond hair deep into the pore, thus allowing the laser beam to pick up enough pigment in order that the laser will penetrate through the hair, thereby damaging the hair follicles and reducing hair regrowth and ultimately causing the follicle to die.
We offer this first consultation and patch test for an affordable £35.00, however, please note: this fee is deductible when you book your treatments, so this becomes FREE!!

Laser Hair Removal - Aftercare Advice
There is the potential that after your treatment, the skin may feel like sunburn but in a mild form. Swelling and redness could also possibly occur at the area which has been treated. Iced water may help to reduce any irritation, and can be used for the initial few hours following the treatment.
- Aloe Vera gel should be used at home after the treatment and throughout the course. Application of Aloe Vera gel will calm the skin and keep it moisturised.
- Avoid any exposure to the sun for 2 weeks after the treatment
- No scratching or irritating the treated skin.
- Hair removal of any other kind must be avoided on the treated area for between 4-6 weeks. This includes electrolysis, waxing threading or plucking) However, hair removal creams or shaving can be used.
- Sunbeds, saunas, hot baths, steam rooms or chlorinated swimming pools must also be avoided for the first 24 hours after treatment, so the skin is being treated the same way as suffering sunburn.
- The wearing of makeup can resume straight after treatment. However, should there be any epidermal blistering, the wearing of makeup must cease immediately.
- SPF 30 or greater must be used throughout the course of the hair removal treatment.
- The use of a wet sponge or cloth can help to remove and clean the hair, by wiping gently.
